SharePoint allows you to assign permissions to access data stored within a collection to anyone with a NetID and password. Unlike many other solutions for collaboration and resource sharing, SharePoint allows you to create custom permission levels and to grant permissions to an entire site, a entire list or library, or to single items on a list or library. OIT offers a Face-to-Face workshop specifically designed to instruct you on setting up and administering permissions inside of SharePoint. Click here to register for the SharePoint permissions workshop.
SharePoint has several permissions levels available out of the box, but also offers the ability to create new fully customized permission levels.
Permissions can be assigned to individuals, or controlled through groups.
At this time, collections hosted on utworks (Learn more about UTK server options) have the ability to grant permissions to persons without a NetID using external authentication. Click to learn more about external authentication.
